Noise Meets the Tide: Crowd Surfing with Julie

On Saturday, July 12, rising Los Angeles-based rock trio Julie brought their grunge-fueled chaos to Houston, Texas, delivering a wild, cathartic night of moshing, crowd surfing, and raw emotion. Words and photos by Megan Eppolito.

When you think of a rock concert, you think of stage diving, moshing, and energy through the roof. The band Julie provided that experience for fans to rock out to their favorite songs on their US tour.

Julie, a rock band from Los Angeles, California, known for their grunge sounds, took on the downstairs stage at White Oak Music Hall on Saturday, July 12, in Houston, Texas. Supported by the band Lowertown, the crowd was full of energy and excitement.

The band of three lit up the stage with Alex Brady on vocals and bass, Keyan Pourzand on vocals and guitar, and Dillon Lee on drums. The band began releasing music together in 2020. They supported artists such as Faye Webster and The Marias and began growing in popularity ever since.

Lowertown, an indie rock duo, opened the night with a chill set that primarily featured their guitars. This performance marked their first stop on the tour supporting Julie.

Julie opened with “Catalogue”, a song from their 2024 debut album ‘My Anti-Aircraft Friend’. The venue was packed with fans, crowd surfing, cheering, and singing along.

The band had a simple set of speakers stacked tall behind them and simple lighting. They played a lot of their popular songs like “Skipping Tiles” and “April’s-Bloom”. They played “Starjump”, a song Keyan announced was their first time playing live since its release.

Members of the crowd jumped from the stage into the masses below. Everyone was packed tightly together, moshing to the music. Keyan even asked the audience to take a few big steps back for safety. Toward the end of the show, Alex announced that crowd surfing should stop. The excitement was felt, reaching from the pit up to the balcony.

The show ended with “Lochness” as the final song. The merch line extended out the door as everyone slowly made their way out of the venue.

The Julie US tour continues until Oct 17-18 at the III Points Festival in Miami, Florida. Check out their website to get tickets and see if Julie is coming to a city near you.
