Fans began lining up as early as 9:30 a.m., and by showtime the Music Hall of Williamsburg was packed from floor to balcony with listeners eager to hear Wolfhard’s most recent solo album Happy Birthday.

Wolfhard, backed by his four-piece band The Slaps, opened the night with “Everytown there’s a darling.” Among the friends and co-stars in attendance were Gaten Matarazzo and Joe Keery from Stranger Things and Wyatt Oleff from It, spotted dancing in the crowd. Also present were Keery’s former Post Animal bandmates Jake Hirshland and Wesley Toledo, who are set to return to the venue in November with The Slaps.

Drummer Josh Resing declared, “I think Finn Wolfhard is saving rock and roll!”, a sentiment the crowd echoed with cheers. Known previously for his work in Calpurnia (2017–2019) and The Aubreys, Wolfhard’s solo album shines as an indie-rock record, setting him apart from his earlier projects and carving a new identity as a solo musician.

Still, some fans struggled to separate art from artist, shouting Wolfhard’s Stranger Things character’s name, Mike Wheeler, multiple times, and even calling out to Keery in the balcony as “Steve Harrington.”

The encore featured Wolfhard joking about forgetting his Adidas on stage before launching into “Happy Birthday,” dedicated to Matarazzo on his 23rd birthday, then rejoining his band for “Trailers after dark” and “Crown.”

After the show, about 50 fans lingered in hopes of meeting Wolfhard and his co-stars. Keery was the first to leave, sprinting past the crowd, with Hirshland and Toledo following suit. While Wolfhard didn’t stop to meet fans, Matarazzo did, posing for pictures as the audience sang him happy birthday.
